This is an easy crock pot chai tea recipe that has made it onto my “let’s make this again” list (and that’s a rarity, let’s be honest). If you were to ask me “coffee or tea,” I would have to lean on the coffee side. However, it is really too close to call. I’ve loved tea since I was a kid. My dad would wake me up before school and bring me piping hot sweet tea. Then, I would run myself a bath and slowly sip the morning blues away (yes, this is a 10 year old Jess – I have never been a morning person).
I fell in love with the sweet and spicy aroma of Chai Tea sometime in college. I drank buckets of the stuff. While I love picking up a cup at my favorite coffee shop, it’s always ideal (and easier on the budget) to be able to whip up a batch right at home. This recipe is truly simple and makes oodles of delicious tea that you can enjoy throughout the week.
Easy Crock Pot Chai Tea: Ingredients
- 15 slices fresh ginger root
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 25 whole cloves
- 15 cardamom pods, crushed
- 3 whole peppercorns
- 3 1/2 quarts water
- 8 black tea bags
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cheese cloth
Let’s Do This Thing!
- Combine all the spices and ginger root onto the cheesecloth
- Tie the cheese cloth together with a string or knot the ends together to keep spices secure
- Pour water into a 5 or 6 quart crock pot
- Put cheesecloth and spices into the water and cook on low for 8 hours
The smell coming from the kitchen was heavenly! The cloves, ginger, and cinnamon wafted through the house all day and it was magical. It’s worth making this recipe as a natural air freshener, to be honest.
- Remove the cheese cloth and spices and discard
- Add the tea bags and let steep for 5 minutes
- Mix in the sweetened condensed milk and let heat through another 5 to 10 minutes
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Our nine year old appears to be following in my footsteps. The kid can slurp up Chai like it’s his day job. This recipe is kid approved and that is saying something! Now, I wouldn’t recommend letting the kids gulp down all the goods, here (caffeine and all that) — but it was a nice little treat on a cold during our history lesson.
I can’t wait to make this one again! Let me know if you try it or think of any great variations! Looking for more wintery treats? Head over here and be well —
