Is there anything more comforting and homey than piping hot oatmeal with cinnamon and nutmeg wafting about the kitchen? No? Well. I just want to start by saying that my kids hate it. So, if you’re looking for an instant kid favorite, this may not be for you (unless your kids aren’t picky, in which case I say — congratulations — and tell me your secrets, PLEASE!). Anyway, I’ve finally found a terrific recipe for creamy Instant Pot oatmeal that I could eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
I remember my grandma saying oatmeal was the best breakfast food. “It sticks to your ribs!” she would say as she served up a bowl of creamy goodness with a heaping scoop of brown sugar. I grew up with the image of the oats literally sticking to my ribs — as if they formed some sort of gloppy glue that would keep me going forever — think the Energizer bunny. Of course, I grew up in the age of instant oatmeal — which is great! I’m not putting instant oatmeal down, here. It’s fabulous. But I’ve always wanted to perfect the old fashioned, creamy oatmeal that brings back all the warm, fuzzy memories. I finally found a great mix that turns out every time!
Creamy Instant Pot Oatmeal Ingredients
- 2 Cups Old fashioned Quaker Oats
- 3 Cups Almond Milk
- Cinnamon Stick
- 1 Cup Water
- Instant Pot
Let’s Do This…
- Add two cups old fashioned oats to the instant pot*
- Pour three cups almond milk into the instant pot
- Pour one cup water into the instant pot
- Add one cinnamon stick
- Seal Instant Pot
- Set to Manual – High pressure for three minutes
- Let the oatmeal natural release for 20 minutes
- Release any remaining pressure
- Add toppings and enjoy (unless you are my kids, in which case you will say BLEGH!)
- *I adhere to a 2 to 1 liquid to oats ratio (leaning a tad bit more towards the liquid side for the creamiest texture)
My kids are dramatic. I *need* to get them enrolled in a drama club immediately. They just don’t understand or appreciate how this oatmeal is absolutely perfect and delectable! I will say, this was the third time I’ve made this for them, and Lennon ate most of it without much complaint. So. It’s growing on them. They truly are made for the stage. I hope you love this oatmeal as much as I do! Our favorite toppings are sugar and blueberries. Tell me yours! Much love, all!
