Is there anything better than the aroma of piping hot cinnamon French toast wafting through your home? I mean, besides a full night sleep. And a deep tissue body massage. Or the kids actually staying in bed after you turn out the lights? How about when the kids learn to wipe their own butts? Okay. Maybe there are a *handful* of things that are better than the out-of-this-world essence of mouth-watering cinnamon-n-sugar filling every nook and cranny of the kitchen. I’ve always loved a good plateful of French toast and have long wanted to perfect a homestyle recipe. BUT…let’s be real. Mama is short on time and patience most mornings. I mean, it’s enough for me to pour myself a cup of coffee. I need EASY. So when I spied this bread in the grocery aisle I flipped! I was able to create bistro style cinnamon French toast out of a bag! What?! Yes.

Cinnamon & Spice & Powdered Sugar Comfort
French toast is the ultimate comfort breakfast food. Try to convince me otherwise. I *dare* you (wink). Like most breakfast foods, the optimal time to consume it is any time of the day or night. That’s the best thing about breakfast food — it tastes even better when it’s *not* breakfast. Crispy, melt-in-your-mouth French toast has been a favorite of mine since childhood. It was a tradition for my mom to make French toast out of her thick sliced homemade bread for our ceremonial first day of school breakfast. Of course, we would enjoy plate fulls of this delectable treat all throughout the year, but I have fond memories of a full belly of French toast as I bounded off (probably tripping at some point) to my first day of school.
Bistro Style Cinnamon French Toast: Out Of A Bag – It’s Angelic
Now, we’re making memories of our own. Two of our kids recently started dance lessons and I’ve begun a wonderful, sacred tradition during this time: the solo grocery trip. I know. It’s okay to be jealo…wha…do you hear that? The heavens have opened and the angels are singing! Oh wait, that’s Celine Dion over the store loudspeaker. Whatever. You get the idea.
ANYWAY. On my most recent vacation (erm, grocery trip), I spotted the Holy Grail. The pinnacle of all culinary delights! It was like my carb-loving heart had been struck with Cupid’s arrow. Now, I’ve been an avid fan of all varieties of Pepperidge Farm Swirl breads. But *this* was different. It’s Pepperidge Farm Swirl French Toast and it’s BEYOOOOND. Just. Beyond! Stop what you’re doing and go get a bag NOW. I’ll wait……
Back? Awesome! Let’s Make Bistro Style French Toast!
Now that you have the elixir of the heavens, let’s do this thing! This is going to be quick. Don’t blink. First, open that bag of bread and give it a good sniff. This is important – once you sniff, you’re in it for the long haul. There’s no turning back. Next, grab two eggs, one cup of milk, a bowl, and a whisk. Combine ingredients and whisk until smooth.
Grab a good pan (we use this set from Cuisinart and LOVE it) and cooking spray and go ahead and grease that sucker up! Turn on the cook top to medium heat. While you’re waiting for things to get hot, dip & soak the bread one slice at a time. Place saturated slices into the pan and let cook until golden brown on each side. Remove from heat and serve hot (preferably with a dollop of butter and a sprinkle of powder sugar).
This Is A Heading Without A Purpose….
Derek was so pleasantly surprised (nearly in shock, to be honest) to see me making a hot breakfast (that actually smelled good) this morning. I’m not one to toot my own horn, but, it was absolutely fab! Now, my kids are picky. Do you think they ate my bistro style French toast hack??
No. No they did not. BUT THAT’S OKAY because my kids don’t know a great thing when they have one and now *you* do! You’re empowered with the knowledge to create magic in your kitchen and that’s a win-win-win in my book!
We all need moments to enjoy the finer things in life (like solo grocery trips). Luckily for us, we can enjoy bistro style French toast without the bistro. Whether you love or loathe cooking, you can rest easy knowing that Pepperidge Farm has your back. Pepperidge Farm knows what you need. Thank you, Pepperidge Farm. Until next time, peace, love, & light!
