I’ve always loved the old-fashioned, cream cheese mints that would be served by the plateful at weddings and graduations. As a kid, I loved drooling over a spread of melt-in-your-mouth goodness in a wide variety of perfectly little molded shapes. Recently, I was craving one of these delectable little bites and longed for graduation and wedding season. Then, it dawned on me — I don’t *have* to wait. There is no *set* mint season! I *could* just make them myself, now! So, I did — *and* I made them Christmassy! Let’s take a peek at this easy Christmas mint recipe!
Easy Christmas Mint Recipe: You Will Need
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar, divided
- 1/2 tsp mint extract
- 1 tbsp milk
- 1/4 cup holiday sprinkles, divided
- 1/2 granulated or powdered sugar (I used powdered sugar
- Mint molds (optional)
Let’s Do This Thing
- Cream together cream cheese and mint extract with mixer on low
- Slowly blend in 2 cups powdered sugar and milk until smooth
- Add 1 cup powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons sprinkles
- Knead behind the rest of the powdered sugar until the dough is smooth throughout. If dough still feels overly sticky, add small amounts of powdered sugar until you are able to roll the dough into a small ball.
- In a small bowl, combine half a cup of powdered sugar or granulated sugar with 2 tbsp sprinkles**
**Use powdered sugar if planning to use molds to keep the mints from sticking in the molds
- Take small amount of dough, either rolling into small balls, or pressing into the molds. If not using molds, put mints onto a baking sheet.
- If using molds, take a sharp knife and scrape off excess mint from the top of the mold.
- Refrigerate for 30 minutes
- Remove mints from the refrigerator
- If not using molds, use a fork to press into the top of the mint to gently flatten
- If using molds, carefully pop mints out onto a serving tray
- Allow mints to air dry for 30 minutes before covering and storing in the refrigerator
I absolutely love the molds that I used for this recipe — they turned out so cute and were easy to remove after refrigerating! The kids enjoyed being the official mold-stuffers and you can bet many tastes were taken along the way. We’ll definitely be adding these to our traditional Christmas treat list to make each season! I may try coloring red and green next year. Have you made Christmas mints? For another holiday recipe, head over here!
