Glitter. You either love it or hate it. I’m in the “love it as long as I don’t have to clean it up” category. Let’s be honest, if you decide to bust open the glitter, you’re committing to one to two weeks of picking it out of everything. Like, every nook and cranny. You’ll probably even find it in your underwear. It doesn’t matter how hard you try to contain it. Once you release the sparkle, it’s “game over.” Whether you love or hate glitter, you’re almost certain to appreciate this colorful, glitter-laden project, though. So let’s hop into how to make your very own glittery glowing monster jars (complete with googly eyes)!
Gather:
- Epsom salt
- Mod Podge
- Glitter
- Glass jar
- Paint brush
- Food color
- Googly eyes
- Wax paper or aluminum foil
- Small battery powered candle
- Hot glue gun
Let’s Make Glittery Glowing Monster Jars:
- Measure one cup of Epson salt into a bowl
- Add a few drops of food coloring into the salt
- Mix in the color until the color spreads throughout the entire bowl of salt
- After the color has spread through the entire bowl of salt, add in the glitter and stir until the salt and glitter is thoroughly mixed together.
- Once the salt and glitter have been mixed, pour the contents of the bowl onto the wax paper or aluminum foil.
- Spread the salt and glitter across the wax paper/aluminum foil.
Now Comes the Messy Part…
- Paint the jar from top to the base with the Mod Podge using the paint brush.
- Once the jar is covered, roll the jar over the salt and glitter until all areas are covered.
- Choose the location for the googly eyes and gently clear the area of salt/glitter where you want to place them.
- Using the hot glue gun, place a generous blob of glue onto the cleared area and secure the googly eyes.
- Let the jar dry overnight.
- To enjoy as a night light, place an LED tealight candle inside the jar for a perfect glow!
I love how each little monster turned out so unique and different! Yes, we made a bloody mess. I’m going to be sweeping/picking up glitter for weeks, I’m sure. BUT the kids had a great time and I was able to grab a couple minutes to myself for a pantry binge of Halloween candy. Total win my friends! Want to add more fun to your season?
