I’m always on the hunt for easy treats and recipes that one, my kids will actually eat and two, that are quick. I’ve spent quite a lot of time in the kitchen, carefully crafting something utterly and undeniably delicious. We’re talking salivation city, folks. Only to have the kids turn up their noses or say the all too familiar, “I don’t LIKE it.” Can you relate? So I stumbled upon this recipe for simple ghostly candied apples that not only had the kids smiling from ear to ear but eating their apple down to the core! ….I mean…it was COVERED in chocolate but, whatever, I call it a win.
You Will Need…
…to put your stretchy pants on for this one. Why? Because you’ll be licking the bowl clean. Don’t even tell the kids you’re crafting a treat — let them be surprised. This will allow you to stick your face straight into the bowl and lap up the delicious offerings of melted Ghirardelli chocolate. Again, I’m going to suggest you put on the Family Halloween station on Pandora and throw the kids a dance party while you hole up in the kitchen and pig out. You’re welcome.
Stretchy Pants On? Good. Now Grab:
- Six small to medium apples
- Microwave safe bowl
- Stirring spoon
- Two bags Ghirardelli white chocolate baking chips
- Cake pop sticks
- Half cup chocolate chips
- Wax paper
- Scissors
- Ziplock baggie
Steps for Simple Ghostly Candied Apples
- Wash and dry apples
- Firmly stick cake pop sticks into the top of the apple, one per apple
- Pour both bags of Ghirardelli baking chips into a microwave safe bowl
- Melt for 45 seconds then stir
- Put back in to microwave for another 45 seconds
- Stir white chocolate until all chips are melted and smooth
- Grab the first apple and tip the bowl to the side as you twist the apple in the chocolate, making sure to cover all sides and the top.
- Set the apple onto wax paper to set
- Repeat for the rest of the apples
- This is the point where you lick the bowl clean, do NOT forget this step!
- Rinse out the microwavable bowl to melt the chocolate chips for a total of 1 minute in the microwave
- Stir the chocolate chips until all chips are melted and smooth
- Cut a tiny bit off of the corner of the Ziplock baggie
- Spoon the melted chocolate into the baggie
- Slowly squeeze melted chocolate out of the small hole to make ghost eyes and a mouth on each apple
See? Easy. Our kids dug right into these (so did I). These would make adorable trick or treat treats tied up in a clear baggie or as a gift for neighbors this season, too. There’s really nothing that says “it’s almost Halloween” like a delicious ghostly candied apple sugar high, is there? Enjoy, witches!
