Do you ever feel like you’re stuck somewhere between wanting to get your shit together and simultaneously wanting to not give a heck anymore? Maybe I’m overdramatizing a bit (do I ever do that?? …note to self to overanalyze that one…), but I feel like I’m almost always fighting a losing battle. I could blame it on life, kids, pets, the moon, and a number of other things. Perhaps we all feel that way, in some respect – that’s life. But it’s possible to take a step towards a less hectic space and go from cluttered to clean with the help of DwelingCo.
Scrolling through social media can be both the best and worst, am I right? I find myself drowning in incredible inspiration that keeps my creative fire burning and the ideas flowing (some of them better than others). On the other hand, it can be hard not to let IG envy get the better of you. It’s easy to make a square look perfect – but when you’re buried in clutter, perfect squares can make you feel inadequate.
But, you’re not inadequate (you know that, right?). We’re all living a different version of reality – filled with beauty, chaos, and everything in between. We all have the ability to create change in our space, one step at a time. One night, while browsing IG, I stopped by Larissa’s feed from DwelingCo. In one reel, she opened up a drawer to the most gorgeous display of spices in sweet little containers, neatly stamped with her custom designed labels.
I thought about our pantry and became discouraged. I had been meaning to take the time to reorganize but time had escaped me (like it does). Larissa is a gem and loved that I loved her labels and sent me a few to try.
Cluttered to clean – what I used
Of course, getting the pantry in order isn’t just about the labels. Taking on a frequently used space like the pantry meant I needed to take it in stages (otherwise I would be crying on the floor, surrounded by potatoes, fruit snacks, and a pile of unrecognizable food scraps that somehow managed to fall into the ether). Small steps. Like, really small. We’re talking one (albeit large) basket of spices to start off my pantry overhaul.
To get my spices under control, I knew I wanted simple glass containers, a new storage method, and clear labels. DwelingCo took care of the labeling and I managed to find several awesome container and storage options on Amazon.
There would be two main spicy areas, if you will. A small spice rack would go on the counter beside the stovetop (for our most-used spices). A second drawer rack would fit inside our pantry for all of the other less frequently used spices.
Add to cart. Complete order. Wait. Two days later, I was elbow deep in spice dust. It was everywhere. Can you believe I had 16 tiny containers of garlic powder? SIXTEEN! How? Why? Was I preparing for a vampire apocalypse?? These are questions that may never have an answer. Anyway. The kids were a big help (mostly) with separating and pouring spices. An hour and a lot of sneezing later, we had conquered the spices!
Can I just say that I never knew how *beautiful* something like paprika, thyme, and sea salt could be? Not only am I easily able to identify and use our spices daily – but they are stunning sitting atop the counter thanks to minimalist glass containers and Larissa’s lovely labels.
The pantry is still mostly a mess (I’m going to blame all the little hands sifting through the snacks every ten minutes). BUT for the first time, I’m able to breathe a little easier with this spice drawer win (literally…way less spice dust now)! Baby steps, friends. If you’re looking to organize your spices, give Larissa at DwelingCo and holler – she’s a gem – and send me pics! Until next time – peace, love, and light (after coffee) –
