Keeping with the theme of all things pink, red, and heart-shaped – let’s mix up a delicious batch of classic puppy chow with a Valentine twist. It’s a you-can’t-eat-just-one-handful type recipe!
Honestly, if there is an opportunity for me to make puppy chow, I take it. The perfect snack is one that’s a little bit salty and a lot a bit sweet, am I right? The blend of peanut butter, chocolate, crunchy cereal, and powdered sugar is absolute perfection in my book (and I have a really big book).
Classic Puppy Chow with a Valentine Twist: You’ll Need…
- 1 box Chex cereal
- 2 bags white chocolate chips
- 1 cup peanut butter
- 3 tbsp butter
- red food coloring
- A crapload of powdered sugar
- Valentine candies
Mix it Up!
- Melt together chocolate, butter, and peanut butter until smooth
- Add red food coloring to the chocolate mixture until the mixture reaches a satisfactory pink to red coloring throughout
- Pour chocolate mixture over the cereal and mix together until fully covered
- Scoop the mix into two gallon zip lock bags that are filled with powdered sugar
- Shake, shake, shake, shake it like a Polaroid picture!
- Put mix into a bowl and add Valentine candies or sprinkles if desired
Did I mention that you’ll also need some extra help to shake it? Find yourself an eager helper (who will likely also be a great taste-tester) and let them get their hands and faces a little messy. Baking is better that way.
These little helpers were eager to help me take my “pretty pictures” while also sampling the mix “just to make sure it’s really good” – absolutely important work, if you ask me.
If you’ve followed along for a while, you know that I like to keep things simple when I can. You can do that by adding little touches to a tried-and-true recipe that give it pizzazz for the season – without reinventing the wheel. My favorite little change to this recipe was adding the touch or red food coloring to make the mix turn a sweet shade of pink. Whether you mix this up for a get together or just enjoy it solo (…sometimes I make it and don’t even tell the kids…) – ENJOY fully, my friend. Until next time, peace, love, & light (after coffee)!
